1Challenge

The contract required 2.6 million feet a year, and missing it meant costly fines, as in the year before. Crews were unbalanced, trucks sat idle and crews planned their own work.

2Approach

  • Set reasonable expectations per task and built a resource capacity plan; added two temporary laborers and six Saturdays
  • Added a fleet availability matrix so supervisors could match equipment to available labor
  • Made supervisors assign work and set a footage expectation for each crew every day

3Results

13K→65K ft

Pipe serviced per week

700→1,800 ft

Per truck per day

Mid-60s→90%+

Equipment utilization

The annual footage goal was met before Christmas, with less reliance on subcontractors.
