Overview: Railroad wanted to improve maintenance of rail cars and locomotives.

Client Profile: Regional freight and passenger carrier with 700 mile track system serving local, often remote, communities.

Assignment: Install maintenance operating system to free up capacity by reducing cycle time.

USCCG Action Plan: Conducted two-week feasibility study to identify and quantify benefits of potential improvements. Obtained input from personnel at all levels in the organization to help develop improvement prototypes. Developed a system to identify specific work activities by department, forecast relative volumes and unit costs, and quantify the workload in man hours. Developed and implemented Master Schedule, monthly and weekly work plans. Installed work order and preventive maintenance schedule. Facilitated reorganization of smaller shops and created Mechanical Services department to support car and locomotive repair.
